How to choose a seed wheel for your crop

Start with the seed dimensions, shape and planting pattern before choosing a roller or outlet configuration.

Scarecrow equipment information · Updated 2 October 2026

The crop name is only the starting point.

Different varieties of the same crop may have different seed sizes and shapes. Coated or pelleted seeds can also require a different arrangement from bare seed. Share a close photograph and measured dimensions when asking about compatibility.

A seed-wheel recommendation should identify the machine family as well as the roller. A wheel from one seeder system is not automatically suitable for another.

Keep row spacing and in-row spacing separate.

Row spacing is the distance between rows. In-row spacing is the distance between planting positions along one row. The SK-SA01 hand-push seeder lists an in-row spacing range of 14–40 cm across its outlet configurations. This is not a row-width adjustment.

State both dimensions in an enquiry, together with the required number of seeds per planting position.

Confirm the selected setup with a seed sample.

A practical check uses the seed variety you plan to sow and the intended roller or outlet configuration. Check the resulting placement before committing to field work. Soil preparation, operating technique and seed consistency can influence the result.

Request the model-specific adjustment information. General demonstration footage can help explain the mechanism but cannot establish a universal accuracy percentage.

What to send with your enquiry

Include the crop and variety, whether the seed is bare or coated, measured seed dimensions, row and in-row spacing, target seeds per position, planting depth and the seeder model you are considering.

Quick answers

Can one seed wheel handle every crop?

No universal compatibility should be assumed. Match the wheel to the machine and the actual seed dimensions, shape and planting requirements.

Does changing seed outlets change the row spacing?

On a wheel-operated hand-push seeder, outlet configuration relates to planting positions along the row. Row spacing is a separate planting-layout choice.
